Formerly known as the Warren-Washington County Model Railroaders, the Upstate Model Railroaders have a long history in the area. Shortly after the 2004 train show, we were offered the use of the basement beneath Aimie's Dinner and a Movie in Downtown Glens Falls, NY as a permanent home with large thanks to Bud Wolf, Sandy and Kerry Metivier. Thus the Upstate Model Railroaders were reborn. After many nomadic years, the room offered the possibility for expansion and because of the additional scales added, we had many new members join. We are now up to 50 members and counting.
When the owner of the building, Bud Wolf, told us he was selling the building, we wondered what would happen to our club if a new owner took possession. Would we be allowed to stay on in our large basement? How much rent would the new owners want? Sadly, our worst fears came true as the new owners evicted us, citing the need to use the basement for extra storage space, so for six months, until June of 2016, we were once again homeless. However, at a recent event at the Troy Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, where the club had a layout set up, our Vice President, Forest Bevins approached Troy Shirt Factory and Chase Sports Complex owner, Eric Unkauf about some available spaces at the Chase Sports Complex building in South Glens Falls. A meeting was arranged between club members and Hank Pelton, the Chase Sports Complex manager and the rest, as they say, is history. Altogether, our three rooms comprise slightly over 2,000 sq. ft., and will enable us to have HO, N, Z and O gauge layouts.
